Celebirty Nail stylist Titilayo Bankole Gives Tips on Keeping Your Nails Healthy Year Round

One of the few downsides to moving from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. has been the chronic dry skin that now plagues me. With all the humidity on this side of the world, you would think my t-zones would be well oiled. Indeed that has not been the case. I am slowly morphing into a reptile.

I sat down with nail stylist Titilayo Bankole for tips on how to keep my hands looking healthy and non-lizard like.

BC:  I’ve never had issues with my cuticles drying out until now.  What can I do to preserve my nails? Right now they’re a disaster. Help.

TB: You have to apply cuticle oil throughout the day, not just after you wash your hands or before bed. You have to train your nails to get used to this weather. You can use any emollient or the Solo Oil we sell exclusively here at Cole Stevens. Saturate your nails with the oil, especially before bed.

BC: Is there a particular oil you suggest I use?

Titilayo oversees The Nail Bar an exclusive service Cole Stevens launched in January for its valued customers. For DIY’ers like me who like to do everything themselves because they’re impossible perfectionists (I digress), Titilayo recommends coming in once a month for the Time Saver Manicure which includes conditioning, massage, and a color change. If you need a little more, The Nail Bar also offers full service upscale manicures.

When she isn’t managing The Nail Bar, Titilayo works as a freelance nail artist. She has styled the nails of a number of celebrities like Nicki Minaj and Taraji Henson, and has worked on the team of creative artists who helped produce the runway looks for Donna Karan, Badgley Mischka, Richie Rich, Adam, Lela Rose and Nordic’s shows during New York’s Fashion Week.
